Work, live and experience the fruit-growing season at Ohashi Cherry Farm in Ashibetsu, Hokkaido.
Would you like to spend part of your Working Holiday surrounded by orchards and the changing seasons of rural Hokkaido? Ohashi Cherry Farm welcomes applications for short-term seasonal work from people who already hold a valid Working Holiday visa for Japan and can communicate in Japanese well enough to understand detailed work and safety instructions.
Our main season runs from approximately mid-May to mid or late August. The work changes as the fruit develops, so each part of the season offers a different experience. You may help prepare the orchard, care for fruit, welcome visitors, harvest cherries and other fruit, or sort and pack produce. Duties are assigned according to the season, weather, your experience, ability and suitability.
Who Can Apply
- You already hold a valid Working Holiday visa for Japan.
- You can understand detailed instructions and communicate about work and safety in Japanese.
- You are able to do physical work outdoors and inside greenhouses.
- You can work carefully as part of a team and follow farm rules.
- You are available for short-term seasonal work between mid-May and mid or late August.
Why Japanese Ability Is Required
Farm work changes every day depending on the weather, fruit condition and number of visitors. Staff may need to explain delicate handling methods, hygiene rules, customer service procedures and safety precautions in detail. For this reason, applicants must be able to understand spoken Japanese and ask questions when something is unclear. Perfect Japanese is not required, but safe and accurate communication is essential.
Important visa information: Ohashi Cherry Farm accepts direct applications from foreign nationals only when they hold a valid Working Holiday visa. We do not directly hire individual applicants under the Specified Skilled Worker visa or other foreign visa categories. Specified Skilled Worker staff are arranged only through our designated staffing agency.
Main Work
- Picking cherries and other fruit
- Work in greenhouses and orchards
- Fruit care and orchard maintenance
- Sorting and packing fruit
- Customer service at the farm shop and tourist orchard
- Cleaning the orchard, work areas, facilities and toilets
- Care of flowers and plants
Not everyone performs every task. We consider each person’s strengths, experience and suitability when assigning work. Tasks may change during the season and according to the weather. Delivery work is not assigned to Working Holiday staff.
What to Expect
This is active seasonal work rather than a sightseeing program. Some duties involve standing, walking, bending, carrying items or working in warm greenhouses and changing outdoor weather. At the same time, you can learn how fruit is grown and prepared for customers, work with a local team and experience everyday life in Hokkaido during its lively agricultural season.

Pay and Accommodation
- Hourly pay: ¥1,075
- Dormitory fee: ¥400 per day
- Private room with Wi-Fi
- Shared kitchen, bath and toilet
- Meals are not provided. Residents prepare their own meals.
The dormitory provides a simple base for seasonal staff. Please understand that the kitchen, bath and toilet are shared spaces, and everyone is expected to keep common areas clean and respect the other residents.
