Itching after eating cherries
If your mouth feels itchy or your lips tingle, swell, or feel uncomfortable after eating cherries, we may contact you.
Some people may be worried that their cherries may have pesticides on them, but please rest assured that our priority is to ensure safety and security so that cherries can be eaten as they are.
This is the most common food allergy that occurs after eating fruits such as melons, apples, and peaches. It is especially seen in people with hay fever (most commonly birch hay fever).
Symptoms appear within 30 minutes of eating fruits, especially those of the Rosaceae family. The most common symptoms are tingling and swelling in the mouth and lips, and other symptoms include skin symptoms such as acne and eczema, gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting, respiratory symptoms due to asthma and pharyngeal edema, and in rare cases, anaphylactic shock may also occur.
People who suffer from hay fever and are especially allergic to birch should be careful, as it is often noticed by the discomfort in the mouth before such severe symptoms occur.
